As the sun rises over the Andes Mountains, a thin veil of fog rolls over Machu Picchu, partially obscuring this ancient city that many Inca called home!

Who Will Benefit:

Welcome to Trek And Teach, a travel blog that focuses on outdoor adventures in historic places.  My goal in creating this blog, is to help inspire others that have a love of travel and history.  By providing background on the places I visit, I hope to inspire you as well to possibly make that leap to leave home and visit them.  I’d like to delve into the history of these places (don’t worry…I promise no tests!!) to help you gain a further appreciation of the places you may have heard of, but may not know a lot about.

As stated above, I also intend to include opportunities to see these places in a unique way.  Hiking, biking, kayaking, horseback riding, among others are  just a few of the options I plan on sharing.  While I may occasionally push the envelope with my activities, this blog is not meant for those seeking extreme sports.  While I welcome you to my site, I’m more focused on activities that are not quite as intense.  My hope is that I can reach a broad range of people regardless of age, activity level, or income.

Ways To Benefit:

Along with providing inspiration, another goal of mine is to provide tips on ways to make these trips possible.  What have I learned from my research that can save you money while still enjoying yourself.  There are many things you can spend your hard earned money on and sometimes travel takes a back seat.  There was a point in my life when I thought travel was nice, but not really necessary or worth the money. (“There’s no place like home!”)  Through my travels, I have gained a greater appreciation of what it means to explore those places you dreamed of.  We become better people, the more we expand our horizons through experiences.

Finally, a brief background on my style of travel.  This blog is not focused on budget travel or luxury travel.  At times, I’ll provide suggestions about these, however they are not the focus.  I prefer to spend money on experiences, meaning while I’ll look for deals on flights, hotels, gear, etc I’m willing to spend a little more money on traveling with a reputable tour company.  I want my accommodations to be clean and comfortable while not breaking the bank.  I’ve spent over the last decade planning trips for myself and friends.  I even have experience planning trips for larger groups  and have been a group leader for a few international trips.  My experiences have taught me what to look for when it comes to planning itineraries.

You CAN Do It!

Many find the thought of setting out on that journey daunting. Exploring areas you are not familiar with, can be scary.  However, having the desire to travel, is half the battle!  Once you’ve been bitten by the travel bug, your life will be forever changed.  You will enthusiastically commit to what most people consider to be a sacrifice, in order to make your dreams a reality.  On a positive note, the memories you gain from exploring the world, will be well worth it.  I have found it’s easier to find yourself, the farther from home you travel.

Over the years, I have discovered techniques to help make a life of travel manageable.  I want to share the knowledge I have acquired, to teach others how to afford their bucket list trips.  With the right know how, and a little planning, you too can make these trips happen.  I have sometimes spent more money than I needed to, stretched myself too thin trying to fit everything into one trip, or even missed a travel opportunity because at first glance, the cost seemed too high.  If I can help others avoid the mistakes I’ve made, I will feel they were worth it.

With Trek And Teach, my hope is to inspire others to take that first step outside their comfort zone to set out from home.  I want you to find that same passion for travel that I found later in life.  Whether you choose to visit another state, take a chance and get that first passport stamp, or voyage to the other side of the planet.  You will not be disappointed no matter where your travels take you!
